These are the ideas for Festival during week of 23-29 June. (NB: Other events are also being put on by other organisations including London Festival of Architecture events at Store Street on Saturday 28 June, and a Fitzrovia Music Festival tbc; and possibly a commercial event).
Some guided walks
Notorious pubs, lost pubs, and pubs in fiction. It is 85 years since the Midnight Bell by Patrick Hamilton was published set in a pub on the Euston Road (later published as part of a trilogy Twenty Thousand Streets Under The Sky). It was probably the Goat and Compasses which is now Margolis office furniture, who converted it in 1963 when they moved in. There’s the Bromley Arms in Cleveland Street, The Black Horse in Rathbone Place, and one on the corner of Wells Street and Mortimer Street where a hairdressers or tanning studio is.
Lost Fitzrovia: From Cappers Farm to Middlesex Hospital: how Fitzrovia has always lost historical buildings. It is 100 years since Cappers Farm farmhouse was demolished to make way for the extension of the Heal’s building Tottenham Court Road. Not sure about this walk. Will have to think about it.
